Small business, small hobby but essential for the future
A little history and ideas
My inventory has been collected over the years. Since I was a kid, I loved old coins and was fascinated with the designs and imagery. My dad had a jar full of old coins he had collected and once a year he would pour them out onto the dining room table. I would arrange them all by type and year and look through the Littleton Coin Catalog to find their value and description. Learned to find the mintmark and variations, condition, grading and some history behind the coins.
Sometime in the 90’s I had the urge to start collecting again. If I had a few dollars extra at the end of the month I would stop by the local coin store and buy something. Usually, a silver round or Silver Eagle or two, sometimes something with numismatic value. I had an urge to do this because paper money and credit seemed ethereal and would just pass through my hands. An urge to save for the future some tangible valuable things to hold onto. Things that would have value, that have always had value and that I could use if my economic situation required it. Valuable things that I could pass on to my children and leave them a legacy.
Motivation, purpose and intent
I am motivated by the state of affairs and the economy. I don’t have confidence that the current monetary system has a lot of time left. That the calculus of debt, GDP, inflation with the geopolitical situation implies a near-future crisis and a return to tangible physical value and sound money. With this in mind I believe that everyone should make some small moves into tangible assets. It is what my store offers and has informed my choices of products. My purpose is to supply these goods at a fair price to anyone. And that intent might put some tangibles into the hands of more people. So that if or when the system has a crisis or restarts each person might have some means to recover and retain some of their wealth. If there is a store, then people can transact. And there is a certain small peace of mind, like a compact inflatable life vest on a tempestuous ocean.
